Pakistan Ends South Africa's 10-match Winning Streak.
Shaheen Afridi secured a quartet of wickets in the final innings after failing to take a wicket in the first session.
Opening Test, the Gaddafi Stadium (day four)
The home side 378 (Imam-ul-Haq 93, Agha 93; Muthusamy 6-117) & 167 (Babar 42; the spinner 5-57)
The visitors 269 (De Zorzi 104; Noman 6-112) & 183 (Dewald Brevis 54; Shaheen 4-33, Noman Ali 4-79)
The hosts secured a 93-run victory
The national team halted the reigning champions the Proteas' winning streak by sealing a 93-run victory in an entertaining and closely contested first Test in Lahore.
The Proteas, who had a 10-Test unbeaten run in the longest format ended with victory over the Aussies in the WTC final in June, were dismissed for 183 in pursuit of 277.
Starting the day on 51 for two, they lost century-maker Tony de Zorzi leg before wicket to left-arm quick Afridi to the third delivery of the day to shift the finely-poised chase in the home team's favour.
Slow left-armer Noman Ali, who secured 10-191 in the game, removed Stubbs for two and bowled Brevis, who put up a fight with a run-a-ball 54.
Right-arm spinner Sajid also capitalized on significant spin to terminate opening batsman Ryan Rickelton's stay - he lasted 145 balls for 45 - and Afridi returned in the afternoon session to dismiss the tail with a impressive exhibition of reverse-swing bowling.
He trapped Verreynne lbw for nineteen and dismissed Subrayen and Rabada to secure the victory.
It was each team's opening game of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle and propels Pakistan straight into the number two spot after table-toppers the Australian team.
The win was built around key performances of 93 by opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq and, crucially, number seven Salman Agha which boosted them to 378.
From there slow bowlers Noman Ali and Sajid took advantage of helpful home pitches, as they had in their series victory over England the previous year, to sustain their advantage.
The second and final Test begins on 20 October.
